A heat advisory forces two decisions on a local government: open something, or cancel something. Ohio communities did both this summer, and the posts that carried furthest shared a quality of specificity — a threshold, a return date, a full set of hours. The county-level roll-up below is the single most-forwarded government post of any kind we saw in Ohio this round.

THE PATTERN TO BORROW
Be the county that collects the list. Montgomery County did not open the cooling centres in Dayton; it published them alongside everyone else's. That single post out-travelled every city post in Ohio this month, because a resident who does not know which jurisdiction runs which building only needs one place to look. If you are a county page, the aggregation is the highest-value thing you can publish.

“With forecasted heat index values expected to exceed 105 degrees, we've made the decision to cancel this week's market out of care for everyone — our vendors, shoppers, volunteers and staff.” The move: Named the threshold that triggered the cancellation and the date the market returns, in the same post. Vendors could plan; nobody had to ask if it was permanent.
