When a county is late certifying the tax rate, the municipality takes the phone calls. It is a near-perfect test of communications discipline: the delay is not yours, the deadline pressure is real, and the temptation is either silence or blame. New Jersey towns wrote into that gap this summer, and the better posts share a structure — say what happened, say what it means for the due date, say what the resident should do now. The same instinct extends to the relief programmes, where towns brought the state to residents rather than linking them to a form.

THE PATTERN TO BORROW
Own the part you control, out loud. Two habits separate these posts. First, own the message even when the cause is someone else's — North Arlington names the county's delay plainly, notes its own budget was finished, and moves on without picking a fight. Second, answer the next question inside the post: Robbinsville publishes the grace period and a phone extension, Aberdeen and Jersey City publish a time, a place and a human. When the news is money, the useful post is the one that ends with something the reader can do.
