THE SIGNAL
Florida runs the largest back-to-school communications operation of any state, and it splits neatly into two jobs: getting supplies to families who need them, and getting drivers to change their behaviour before the buses return. The posts that did best on the second job were the ones that stopped lecturing drivers and started describing children.

Give the warning a face. North Port's school-zone post contains no statistics and no threat. It describes what a child is thinking about on the walk to school, and lets the driver draw the conclusion. It is also the post that quietly delivers the operational news — new cameras, warnings only in August — to an audience that has already decided to keep reading.
